Tools to help you eat and live better

So there are so many of us who are either trying to eat better and/ or trying to exercise more. It can be hard to do these things on your own, especially if you don’t have much information on how to do it. If you don’t know what foods are better for you, how can you eat better? If you are not motivated to exercise or feel you don’t have the time, are you actually going to start exercising or exercise more?

You may not know that I just finished a program focused on nutrition (basic and clinical). I have been interested in nutrition for years, I’ve been a vegetarian for over 6 years, and over that time I have learned a lot about nutrition and eating properly. In my program that I just finished, we heard about this site called Go to this site and click on SuperTracker on the left hand side, which will open a new window. This is an American tool, but us in Canada can easily use it too! From there you can make an account (but you don’t have to if you don’t want to) and track your eating and your exercise habits to see what you are doing well and what you need to improve. All you have to do is click on track food & activity, and from there either click on food tracker or physical activity tracker, and search for the foods you have been eating and the activities you have been doing. You then input the amount of each food you eat and how many minutes of activity you have done and the program will calculate how many calories you have taken in and how many you have burned off for the day.

If you make an account you can track your activity longterm if you are ready to make a longterm change. Now keep in mind, the site is American, so those of us who are in Canada have a different amount of servings of foods and amount of exercise that is recommended for us. You also need to keep in mind that some of the foods can be difficult to find in the system so sometimes you may need to substitute foods.

I’d give this tool about an 8 out of 10 because I think it’s a good tool to use for those who feel they want or need it.

So for us Canadians, there is this awesome tool you can use. Go to and click on Start Building My Food Guide. This will open a new window where you input your gender and age, you choose the foods you like to eat and the physical activity you enjoy doing, and you will get your own food guide! It tells you how much of each food group you should eat and how much of each food equals one serving. This is an AWESOME tool to use and I highly recommend using it. I have used it myself many times and I made food guides for some of my family. I’d give this tool a 10 out of 10 because it is awesome.
