The Hitcher

February 1, 2012

Jim and Grace are college students meeting up with friends on spring break. While driving through the New Mexico Desert during a dreary, rainy night, the couple almost hit a hitchhiker. They end up giving a ride to the hitchhiker John Ryder. While in their car, the stranger proves to be a psychopath threatening the pair with a knife, but Jim outsmarts him and is able to throw him out of the car onto the road. The following morning the young couple sees John in another car with a family, and while trying to advise the driver that the man is dangerous, they get into a car accident. While walking on the road trying to find someone to pick them up, they find the whole family stabbed, but John sees that the driver is still alive. They drive to a restaurant looking for help, and this is when the police blame Jim and Grace for the murders of the family and arrest them. Once at the police station, John Ryder shows up and kills the policemen, therefore framing the couple. Will Jim and Grace survive? Will they be arrested for murders they didn’t commit? Will the police catch John Ryder?

The Hitcher is a remake of the film made in 1986. I have never seen the movie, but I have heard good things. This version (the remake) was made in 2007 and stars Sophia Bush, Sean Bean and Zachary Knighton. I am personally a big fan of Sophia Bush (she stars in One Tree Hill, and has been in movies such as Stay Alive and John Tucker Must Die), so I looked forward to seeing this film when it came out in theaters. I am not the biggest fan of Sean Bean, but if you enjoy his movies, definitely check this one out. He is really crazy in this one!

The Hitcher is filled with gripping suspense, lots of thrills and gore for all of the horror lovers out there. People who are squeamish about gory scenes or movies that make you jump may not enjoy certain scenes of this movie. I would say that if you enjoyed the suspense in Disturbia and enjoy some bloody parts, then I’m sure you will enjoy this movie!

I would rate this movie a 9 out of 10 🙂

I haven’t seen either since I scare easily, but I’ll keep this in mind during October when I am drawn to scary movies.
