House At The End of the Street

October 10, 2012

Last night I went and saw House At The End of the Street with a friend of mine. The movie is about a mother and daughter who move to a new town and find themselves living next door to a house where a young girl murdered her parents. When the daughter befriends the surviving son, she learns the story is far from over. It stars Jennifer Lawrence and Elisabeth Shue. It is 101 minutes long and the genre is horror/ thriller.

There are many suspenseful moments during the movie and I think the actors were okay. There was no gore, which I usually enjoy, so I missed having that. One good point was that there was no sex or nudity, which is in practically every horror movie now, so it was nice to see a movie without it. My friend didn’t particularly enjoy the movie, but I thought it was alright. Definitely not the greatest movie, because Jennifer Lawrence’s character seemed rather dumb and far too nosy for her own good, and everyone who is a horror fanatic knows that we have enough dumb characters in these movies and we don’t need anymore. Some parts of the movie were also very cliche, which is typical in horror, but it would have been nice to see a few more new ideas. There is quite a twist at the end which was a nice surprise.

Overall, I think I would rate the movie a 6 or 6.5 out of 10. If you enjoy the horror genre, you may enjoy this movie, but don’t expect it to be the best movie ever.
