Allison Brennan

April 22, 2013

If any of you enjoys reading novels of suspense, check out Allison Brennan’s work. She is one of my favourite authors! Most of her novels are considered romantic suspense and they are fantastic. A few weeks ago I was able to find two of her novels that I have been looking for for years now, Fatal Secrets and Cutting Edge. I was so excited to finally find them, so I read the first book in that particular series again, Sudden Death, and it is a fantastic read. Lots of suspense, a ton of surprises and some romance thrown in.

I believe I now own 18 of her novels and 3 of her short stories/ novellas. I am a huge fan of her writing and will tell just about anyone who will listen! If any of you are a fan of suspense or just want to check out a great book, look for one of Allison Brennan’s novels. Believe me, you won’t be disappointed!

Twitter (which she actually tweets from herself, and has replied to me many times!!)

Facebook page:

And on a side note, her series Speak No Evil, See No Evil and Hear No Evil made me very interested in sexual assault/ abuse and about six years ago I did a school assignment based off of this series. Recently, I have decided to go back to school, and go to university to take Women’s and Gender Studies, so one day I can work as a women’s counselor in a shelter or community centre, or work in women’s rights. I believe that reading Allison Brennan’s books over the years, and especially that particular series, sent me in this direction which is amazing! So thank you to Allison Brennan for opening up my eyes and for giving me fantastic books to read. 🙂

Look at where I went after work this morning- chapters! It’s one of my favourite stores, I think I could live in the horror section. I bought the next book in Joe McKinney’s dead series: Flesh Eaters. I look forward to reading it! I also bought the fourth book in the series: Mutated. I will be sure to post reviews when I am finished reading them. Have any books caught your eye lately?

Apocalypse Of The Dead

December 16, 2012

Good evening everyone!

Following my review of Dead City by Joe McKinney, I would like to give you all my review of the second book in the dead series: Apocalypse Of The Dead. The story follows many individuals and groups of people in the United States. It has been two horrible years since the hurricanes flooded the Gulf Coast, and the dead rose from the chaos. Cities were quarantined to contain the dead, and also contained the unlucky survivors still living inside.

Some refugees make it out of the quarantine zone, but not all of them are healthy- some of them are infected. Within weeks, the epidemic spreads across the United States and the rest of the world. There are cases in China, Africa, and just about everywhere else, meaning nobody is safe. One of the characters who is focused on is retired U.S. Marshal Ed Moore. As he tries to lead a group of strangers to safety, he hears about a community in the North Dakota Grasslands, lead by a preacher who has built the community up and kept them safe. What he doesn’t know is that this preacher has frightening beliefs, including encouraging his people to agree to a suicide pact. Ed Moore and the other groups of survivors must decide what to do and where to go before it is too late.

I found that the book started off well, but was confusing. Joe McKinney focuses on many different groups of survivors and it makes the book difficult to follow. Once I was about a quarter of the way through, it became easier to follow along as he described the characters more and some of the groups were killed off. The book does have a lot of action and suspense from the beginning to the end, but I would have to say that the second half of the book was more interesting than the first for me. Based on my love for Dead City, I would recommend reading this book, as it does a good job of following Dead City. The only thing is that the character Dead City is based on, is not in Apocalypse Of The Dead. He only mentioned him once, and I would have liked to find out what happened to him.

I believe I would give the book an 8.5 out of 10. I did enjoy the book a lot, and the ending was good, but I could not give it a 10 because of how confusing I found the beginning. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys horror and/ or zombie novels, but I would say to read Dead City first. The next book in the series is called Flesh Eaters, and I am hoping to go buy it tomorrow so I can continue reading this series. I can tell by both Dead City and Apocalypse Of The Dead that Joe McKinney is great with descriptive detail on events as well as characters, and does a good job at keeping the reader interested.

For those of you who are interested in this book, I bought it at the World’s Biggest Bookstore for $8.99. You can also buy it at Chapters or any other bookstore associated with Chapters, but they don’t carry it at every location so I would check online first to see if your local store has it. Once I read Flesh Eaters, I will make sure to write a review to keep you all updated on Joe McKinney’s novels. I have really been enjoying getting back to reading regularly, and I love that I have found a writer that keeps me interested with their books! If you are looking for a great horror book, check out Dead City and Apocalypse Of The Dead. 🙂

Dead City

December 5, 2012

Good afternoon,

I would like to mention a great book today! Dead City by Joe McKinney is a novel about a zombie apocalypse. The story follows a cop named Eddie Hudson in San Antonio, Texas. The Texas gulf coast has been battered by five hurricanes in the last three weeks and it has caused the worst devastation in history. Thousands of people are dead or dying, but they aren’t staying dead. A deadly virus has broken out and is returning the dead to life, and giving them a hunger for human flesh.

Eddie Hudson finds the city overrun by the dead, and must fight them to make it back to his family alive. There is no place to run or hide, and the disease is spreading faster than anyone could have imagined.

This book is absolutely amazing! It has lots of terror, suspense, and a great storyline. Joe McKinney gives expert detail to every part of the story, keeping you on your toes and making you want and need to read more. I had never heard of him before, but when I found this novel in the horror section of Chapters, I was intrigued. I would suggest this book to anyone who enjoys reading the horror genre. If you like watching The Walking Dead, or any zombie movies, I would suggest this to you as well. Honestly, I would suggest this book to just about anyone. It is excellent. I read the book in 4 days, and I could not wait to read the next book in the series. The second book is called Apocalypse of the Dead, and I am about a third of the way through the book, so once I am finished I will be sure to write a review.

I bought Dead City at Chapters, but I’m sure you could probably find it in most bookstores that have a horror section. It is $8.99 Canadian and $6.99 American. It is 288 pages long, so a little shorter than novels I usually read, but great none the less. I would give it a ten out of ten! Please check out this book, you won’t be disappointed!!

My 28th fact of my 50 facts is about my favourite authors! Stephen King is one of my favourite authors. My mom and my dad have been reading his books for years and years, and I enjoy them too! Some of his novels can be difficult to get into, as his style of writing is very different from most other authors, but when I do get into one of his books I can’t put it down, and I love love love his short stories! I have always loved short stories in general (especially horror and mystery stories) and Stephen King’s are some of my favourites. My other favourite author is Allison Brennan. If you have not heard of her, she writes romantic suspense novels (although I find they are more suspenseful than anything, which I love). I own most of her novels now, because I love her writing so much. She’s written almost 30 stories, including full novels, short novellas, short stories and e-books, and I have 17 or 18 of them. If you enjoy suspenseful and thriller type novels, then you should definitely check out her books!

Love Me To Death

January 4, 2012

This is my first book review, so definitely let me know what you think 🙂

Love Me To Death is the first novel in a series about Lucy Kincaid, a twenty something year old girl who was attacked and nearly killed by an online predator six years ago. She survived by killing her attacker. Ever since, she has been trying to regain control over her life, but it has been difficult when she has an overprotective family filled with FBI, police and military. Her goal now is to join the FBI and fight cyber-crime, and in the meantime she is volunteering with a victim’s rights group, trying to help others who have been through what she has. She surfs the web undercover, trying to lure sex predators into the hands of the law. But then the predators she has been hunting start turning up murdered, and the FBI takes a special interest in Lucy.

She now feels that her career and freedom are possibly in jeopardy, and this is when she joins forces with Sean Rogan, who is a security expert and daredevil. Together they try to figure out what is happening, but someone is watching and following them…

The novel is a romantic suspense novel written by Allison Brennan, who has written many incredible novels before this one. It is expertly written, filled with romance, tension and a lot of suspense. Each chapter keeps you guessing what may happen next and who the killer is. Lucy was a character in one of Allison’s previous books, Fear No Evil (which is also an excellent book, I’ve read it at least 3 or 4 times). She is the perfect heroine, going from being a victim suffering from nightmares and afraid of being alone, to helping others, among other things which I won’t tell you, so that you can read the book and find out for yourself! She is a character that many people can relate to, whether you have suffered with any kind of abuse, you have trouble trusting people, or you have law inforcement in your family.

The novel has two books following it, Kiss Me Kill Me, and If I Should Die.

Allison Brennan is a fantastic author. I have 14 of her books already, and I am excited for her new books which will be coming out this year. Some of her other books include The Prey, Speak No Evil and Sudden Death.

If you enjoy reading romance or suspense novels, or both, or are looking to read a new book or check out a new author, check out any of her books. Love Me To Death is an excellent book that I will for sure be reading multiple times. I give it a 10 out of 10!
