Pulse Review

Just when you thought that cell phones, blackberries, iPhones, iPads, computers, and all the other electronics we have were making our lives better, apparently they can be deadly.

After Mattie’s (Kristen Bell) computer hacker boyfriend Josh commits suicide, her and her friends begin seeing strange and frightening things. They find out that Josh had accidentally channeled a mysterious wireless signal, which has caused a terrifying evil to escape and try to take over the world through electronic devices, cell phones and computers. Mattie and her friends have to try to stop it before everyone is dead.

Pulse is a horror movie made in 2006, which stars Kristen Bell, Ian Somerhalder and Christina Milian. It is a remake of the Japanese movie Kairo.

For those of us who enjoy classic horror movies as well as newer ones, this movie is a good one to see. It is filled with tons of suspense, heart-stopping thrills and gruesome special effects. It is not a horror movie filled with sex and blood being spilled in every scene… but if you scare easily, this movie may make you afraid to look in the shadows. I would say that Pulse is most similar to White Noise, so if you enjoyed White Noise, check out Pulse.

Now it is by no means the best horror movie I have seen. There are many movies that are better, but this movie is quite good, especially when you think of some of the awful horror movies they have put out in recent years. Now don’t get me wrong, I enjoy many of the newer horror movies, but there have been some pretty bad ones (some examples being Hostel, and any of the Saw movies made after Saw 2).

If you look on IMDB, the average rating is only a 4.5, and it made slightly over 20 million at the US box office. There is a second and third movie I believe, but I have only watched the first. I would rate Pulse a 7 out of 10. I enjoyed it because of all of the suspense, and because of the similarities to White Noise, which I enjoyed. If you haven’t watched it and enjoy suspenseful horror movies, or movies related to technology taking over, then check it out.
