End of March

March 31, 2012

Today is the last day of March, which is strange to me because it feels like it just flew by! Does anyone else feel that way?

I had a lot of great moments this month, such as going to Florida and going out to see live music. Some of the weather was great too. When I came back from Florida on the 13th, it was so warm for over a week! Then it became cold again, ick!

I don’t know how warm it has been for all of you, but I hope that Ontario will get a warm April, leading to an early summer! I really dislike cold weather.

Anyway, let’s hope for some warm weather and some great blogs to read! 🙂

Beautiful photo!

Lifelong photo exposure

pink blossoms in march in Montenegro

While I was hunting the mist, these ones became two weeks old and thus outdated. Things change quickly here in spring.
I call them Pink Middle March trees. Any ideas, what they are really called?

Awesome photos! 🙂

The Iris and the Lily

An unusually  warm meteorological spring has given way to a plethora of flowers.

Where once brown earth ruled waves of blue now command.

Hand in hand with flowers come emerged insects.

Beetles and bees and butterflies.

While sitting on the brown earth trying to photograph my Helleborus this gentle Sulphur  flew ’round me. For a moment of time it landed on my lips.  A kiss, a wish fulfilled.

To sit in Gaia’s garden and become one with her children, magical. . .

Beautiful photo!

If you have been reading my blog for a while, you probably know that I sometimes go overboard with watching tv shows and movies on Netflix. Over the past month or two, I have been watching several different tv shows and have grown to love them. I know that (at least) several of my followers have Netflix and enjoy checking out new shows, so I wanted to tell you about three shows you should watch. They have all come out within the last 3 or 4 years.

The first show I wanted to mention is definitely my favourite out of the three; Drop Dead Diva. Drop Dead Diva is a comedy/ drama about a girl named Deb who was a beautiful aspiring model who ends up getting into a car crash and dying. She is sent to a place where they decide where she will be sent (Heaven or Hell) and she ends up pressing the return button to return to earth. She is not sent back into her own body, but instead is sent into the body of Jane, a “plus-sized” (<–I hate that term) brunette who is a very intelligent and successful lawyer. She has to now live her life as Jane, with all of Jane’s intelligence, but all of Deb’s memories. It is a great show that gives you tons of laughs and has some really great actors in it, including Brooke Elliot, April Bowlby and Jackson Hurst (who actually tweeted me about a week ago!!! Can you tell I was excited?). Definitely an awesome show that everyone should check out. Netflix has the first two seasons, we are waiting on the third to be put up, and the fourth season plays on Lifetime this summer.

The second show that I found is Accidentally on Purpose. The show was only created for one season (I don’t think the ratings were great), which I find depressing, but I found it to be incredibly funny. It is about a woman in her mid-thirties named Billie (played by Jenna Elfman) who has a one night stand with twenty-two year old Zack (played by Jon Foster, who was in Stay Alive) and gets pregnant. They then end up living together and the show is all about them trying to get along and figure out how they will raise the baby! I laughed through every episode, so I am not sure why they cancelled it, but at least we were given one season of a funny show. Look it up if you want to enjoy lots of laughs!

The third show that I found is Melrose Place 2.0. This is another show that was cancelled after only one season due to ratings, and I have only watched half of the episodes so far, but it seems to be pretty good. I never watched the original Melrose Place (I was too young when it was on) but I decided to check this one out. It is about a group of twenty-something professionals living at the infamous Melrose complex. They deal with drugs, relationships, violence, murder and more. The show stars Katie Cassidy (who has been on Supernatural and Gossip Girl), Jessica Lucas and Ashlee Simpson, among others. The cast all seem pretty good (except for Ashlee Simpson, but that isn’t surprising) and the plot has kept me interested so far so I think this one would be great for those to check out who enjoy young adult dramas.

Netflix also has some other great shows, such as Dexter and The Walking Dead, both of them I LOVE. I still say that they could use some more variety in their tv shows and movies, but so far I have been finding some great stuff to watch. If you decide to watch any of these shows, let me know what you think of them. 🙂

Last Day in Florida

March 25, 2012

Having to leave Florida was so sad. I took this photo on my last day.

I hope I can go back one day!

Blanket Dog

March 23, 2012

So a few days ago my dog Chief was being very dramatic and adorable while laying on his blanket and I thought I would take a few photos of him.

Tulips Blooming

March 22, 2012

I found two of our tulips blooming in our front yard.

I love tulips!

Palm Trees

March 21, 2012

I went to this place Pier Park while in Florida and wanted to take a picture of some of the palm trees! 🙂

I LOVE how there’s palm trees all over the place in Panama City Beach!

Pelicans

March 20, 2012

While in Florida, I kept seeing these birds fly overhead all the time and I was told they were pelicans. Once I got a closer look, I thought they were very odd looking and I was sure that they couldn’t be pelicans, until I looked them up online and found out that they were in fact pelicans.

Very strange looking birds in my opinion…

Apples vs. Tomatoes

March 18, 2012

I found this ad on the internet for ketchup. It is promoting Heinz, saying that there are more tomatoes and less sugar in their “fit” ketchup.

Now, I don’t even know if this ad is real, seeing as I have never seen it before now and it looks rather silly, but it reminded me of a saying that everyone always uses: ‘An apple a day keeps the doctor away”. Well, I’m not the hugest fan of apples, although I do enjoy a golden delicious or a granny smith once in a while. So needless to say, I do not eat apples very often. I decided to start telling people that “A tomato a day keeps the doctor away”, because let’s face it, yes apples are good for you, but there are so many nutrients in tomatoes, and I tend to eat a lot of tomatoes. Tomatoes actually have more Vitamin A and Vitamin C in them than apples do. I am not saying that apples are bad in any way, or that you shouldn’t eat them, I’m just saying that for those of us who are not big fans of apples, there is something else out there that may be even better for us.

For those of you who do not enjoy apples or tomatoes, there are many other fruits and vegetables out there that you can enjoy that are good for you. 🙂

Just remember that my saying is, “A tomato a day keeps the doctor away”. 🙂

Three Movies on Netflix

March 17, 2012

So I thought I’d write a post about how I went a little crazy watching movies on Netflix today. I somehow managed to watch three entire movies, even with interruptions of phone calls, emails, and of course taking my dog on two long walks.

We originally had Netflix last year for a month in May, and got rid of it because we didn’t think we would use it much. Then we got it back again maybe two months ago, and some days our household goes a little overboard with Netflix movies and tv shows. I got into two shows off of Netflix: Accidentally on Purpose (which was only done for one season, which is sad!) and Drop Dead Diva (which I adore!). I watched all of the one season of Accidentally on Purpose, and all of the two seasons of Drop Dead Diva that have so far been added to Netflix. I am eagerly awaiting the third season!!

I didn’t have much I needed to do today, other than feeding and walking the dog, so I first decided to watch The Mist. This is because I had never seen it before, it is based on of a novella by Stephen King (one of my favourite authors!) AND because one of the actors from Drop Dead Diva is in it. While I was watching, I also discovered that at least three of the actors from The Walking Dead are in The Mist, which is pretty cool because I really enjoy the show (the season 2 finale is on tomorrow night!). I found The Mist to be suspenseful and I liked most of the characters (except for one, but luckily they died), so overall I believe the movie was good, except for the ending. I guessed what the ending would be and I ended up being correct. There was a little surprise that I did not expect at the end, but in general I was not all that surprised and I was a little upset that the end was so predictable.

I then watched I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, which I have seen before many times. It is an alright movie, but the first is definitely better. The last movie I watched was one called Surviving Crooked Lake, which is about these four young girls who have to survive after something happens to their guide. I’m not sure how old these girls are, but they seem awfully young. The acting was not good and the camerawork was all over the place. I was not happy with a few other things, but in case you decide to watch it, I won’t say what, although I do not recommend this movie.

So clearly I had too much time on my hands today, and I’ll try not to do the same thing again tomorrow. If you have Netflix though and enjoy suspense, I’d say to check out The Mist. Even though I didn’t enjoy the ending, I don’t think it’s a bad movie. If you don’t have Netflix, you should consider getting it if you enjoy tv shows and movies, and/or can’t find anything to watch on cable or satellite. Netflix does have some different things on it that I wouldn’t normally see on cable, but at the same time they do need to add a lot more to it so that they have more of a selection. For $8 a month though, you can’t really complain.

Some of the flowers in our front yard are starting to come out again!

Wakulla Springs (Florida)

March 16, 2012

On my second full day in Florida, I went to Wakulla Springs. I saw tons of different trees, birds, turtles, manatees and alligators! The experience was so cool. Wakulla Springs is a beautiful and amazing place.

🙂

During my stay in Florida, I went to the Panama City Conservation Park. I didn’t end up seeing much of anything, except for a grasshopper and a bumblebee that kept following me around. I also saw a really cool stream!

I took a quiz to see which season I (apparently) feel like, and here are my results:

You Feel Like Spring

You have reached a point in your life where new opportunities are coming your way. The future is exciting and bright. You are excited to start making plans.
It’s likely that you have been stuck in bit of a rut, but that’s all about to change. You’re ready to explore, learn, challenge yourself, and grow. All of a sudden, the world is much more colorful.

Footprints in the Sand

March 14, 2012

I thought it would be really cool to take this photo of all of the footprints in the sand. The sand is this wonderful creamy-white colour, and clearly everyone loves to walk through it. I definitely enjoyed walking in the sand!

Florida Sunset

March 13, 2012

I took this photo during my first evening in Panama City Beach, Florida. I don’t think sunsets can get more beautiful than this one.
